With competitive rates, flexible terms, and full regulatory compliance, we make multi utility connections simple and scalable.

Land & Power – technical expertise. dependable delivery.

Testing & Commissioning

Prior to energisation and handover to the energy supplier, we undertake comprehensive testing and commissioning to validate the infrastructure’s integrity, functionality, and compliance.

All systems are assessed against applicable safety standards and regulatory frameworks to ensure reliable operation and full certification. This process mitigates risk, confirms performance, and guarantees readiness for integration into the wider network.

Post installation support

We deliver ongoing support throughout the lifecycle of the connection infrastructure, including scheduled maintenance, responsive repairs, and strategic upgrades.

This ensures the infrastructure remains efficient, reliable, and fully compliant with evolving standards and operational requirements over time.

Expert Utility Guidance

ICPs offer a range of value-added services designed to enhance operational efficiency and reduce utility costs. These include:

  • Comprehensive energy audits
  • Utility cost analysis
  • Infrastructure performance assessments
  • Utility procurement and contract management

Through meticulous energy audits, ICPs identify inefficiencies, uncover areas of wastage, and recommend targeted strategies to reduce consumption while maximising productivity and cost-effectiveness.

Underground Utility Installation

Installing underground utilities demands specialist expertise and precision. We operate a range of advanced trenching equipment capable of installing virtually any type of utility – from pipework to cabling and beyond.

Comprehensive service

Our experienced engineers are also available to carry out remedial drainage repairs, ensuring the land is restored to its original condition and returned to landowners with minimal disruption.

Trusted & approved contractors

As verified and approved professionals, we carry out all work safely and to the highest standards. Our mission is to deliver a seamless, cost-effective service that covers every aspect of underground utility installation.

Substation construction

The construction of substations is often essential when an electrical connection is required for an existing building with increased supply needs, a new property, or a renewable generation site.

Our team can design and construct a substation tailored to your specific requirements.

Our electrical division is equipped to install switchgear, transformers, and associated cabling – including all terminations and commissioning.
We liaise directly with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to manage compliance and ensure all standards are met, guaranteeing smooth and efficient project progression.

Earthing systems

A well-designed earthing system is crucial for the safety of personnel, equipment, and surrounding livestock.
Our custom designs exceed the rigorous standards set by current NG and UKPN regulations.

Our highly trained engineers are equipped to carry out all earthing system installation techniques relevant to your design, ensuring compliance, reliability, and long-term safety.

Understanding contestable and non-contestable works in UK electricity grid connections

When connecting to the UK electricity grid, it’s important to understand the two key categories of work involved: contestable and non-contestable.

This distinction plays a vital role in navigating the grid connection process efficiently and making informed decisions throughout the project.

Contestable Works

Contestable works are activities that can be carried out by either an accredited Independent Connection Provider (ICP) or a Distribution Network Operator (DNO). These tasks are essential for establishing or upgrading a connection to the electricity grid.

Key activities include:

  • Electrical Design: Developing detailed plans and specifications for the electrical infrastructure.
  • Cable Laying and Jointing: Installing and connecting cables that transport electricity.
  • Substation Installation: Setting up substations to manage electricity distribution.
  • Civil Works: Performing construction activities related to the installation of electrical infrastructure.

The flexibility of contestable works enables clients to choose between different providers, often resulting in more competitive pricing and services tailored to specific project needs.

Non-Contestable Works

In contrast, non-contestable works can only be carried out by Distribution Network Operators (DNOs). These activities are essential for maintaining the integrity and safety of the electricity network.

Typical non-contestable tasks include:

  • Connection to the Existing Network: Finalising the physical connection to the grid.
  • Network Reinforcement: Upgrading existing infrastructure to accommodate new connections.

Because these works are critical to the operation of the electricity network, they are not open to competition and must be performed by the designated DNO.

Collaboration Between ICPs and IDNOs

Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) often collaborate with Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs).
Clients may engage ICPs directly or through an IDNO, which acts on their behalf. Working in tandem, the ICP and IDNO carry out the contestable works required for a new or upgraded grid connection.

Efficient connections. Trusted expertise.

Navigating the complexities of electricity grid connections in the UK demands a firm grasp of both contestable and non-contestable works. By partnering with experienced Independent Connection Providers (ICPs) and Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs), clients can streamline delivery, reduce risk, and maintain control over timelines and costs.

Land & Power bring specialist expertise to every stage of the connection process. As a Lloyd-accredited ICP, we deliver all contestable works, including civil construction, cable laying, jointing, and substation installation, up to 33kV, across all UK DNO and IDNO networks.
